I went into the first episode of Percy Jackson and the Olympians expecting something serviceable at best. The movies had been enjoyable enough that I assumed a series adaptation might struggle to match them, but that assumption was quickly proven wrong.
This opener delivers a strong sense of intrigue right from the start. It keeps you guessing about what is really happening around Percy without rushing to explain everything, and the pieces only begin to fall into place toward the end in a way that effectively sets up the larger season story.
Walker Scobell is a good choice in the lead role. He has both the natural screen presence and the acting ability to make Percy feel grounded and watchable from the first scenes.
8/10: Overall it is a very solid beginning that left me interested to see where the series goes next.
