Finally, Dwight has real stress. After a Season 3 that leaned on villains who never felt like a threat, this episode piles on pressure from several directions, and for once the General looks like he might not be able to talk, shoot or bluff his way out. It’s high time, and it’s the best thing here.
The episode also falls back on the tropes this show can’t shake. A few poorly written scenes undercut the tension the rest of the hour builds, and that wastes good setup.
Still, I mostly loved it. It sits above last week’s uneven outing and just under the premiere, and the direction of the season feels right.
7.5/10: Keep raising the stakes, and keep the writing sharp enough to match them.
